This cushioning prevents you from straining your legs when you’re walking or even running for long periods of time by providing you with a soft “bounce back.” This cushioning typically starts to wear off in about 8 to 12 months depending on how your shoes are being used.
If you’re using your sneakers for casual wear and you walk around 4 to 5 hours a week then replacing your shoes every 6 to 8 months would be good enough, but if you’re using it for athletic purposes such as running, and you run on an average about 15 to 20 miles a week, then it would be ideal to replace them every 4 to 6 months.
This is why athletes need to watch out for the lifespan of their shoe as when the shoes are on their very end, the cushion isn’t able to provide much of a support which might result in a leg strain, soreness or even an injury.
Your weight also plays a major factor in this. Your shoes tend to hit the bucket much faster or slower depending on how much you weigh.

Discomfort and Flatness
If you’re looking for solid indications to replace your shoes then the best place to start would be comfort. Process of Aging
Your shoe may have already been sitting in a box in the warehouse for well over a year, and you wouldn’t notice anything on them since they haven’t been out of the box so they just look brand new. Since most athletic shoes are glued together being stored away on a shelf just dries out the glue over time, so in a sense it has already been already aging. Chances are the air pockets contained in the cushioning may also dissipate and it might provide you with much less wear when you’re just buying them.

If you have multiple pairs of shoes it’s a good idea to switch between using them every now and then, that keeps all of your pairs of shoes longer lasting as each one’s being after a small break and replacing the insoles of your shoes may give you extra added comfort at times but you have to realize that just a cushioned insole won’t provide the same comfort as the shoe itself.
