1. Using toothpaste 

Did you know toothpastes are great for cleaning shoes? They help to get rid of sticky dirt from even the most troublesome corner and gaps in your sneakers. Non-gel tooth pastes are great for cleaning white sneakers. Start by applying white toothpaste in an old toothbrush and apply it to your sneaker’s outer surface where your sticky stubborn stains are. After you have rubbed your brush against the stains do not wash them immediately. 

Let them settle for some time about 10 minutes or so. After that a damp warm towel or a wet sponge and rub off the tooth paste that you have previously applied in the area containing the strains. You will notice that 80% of the sticky stains have come off, so you need to keep repeating the same process until your pair of sneakers are neat and clean again. Before you start right away, make sure you take a toothbrush that is old and no longer used.

2. Using washing powder   

To clean sneakers using washing powder take some detergent powder and put 2 -3 spoons of them the powder in a bowl containing heated water. The water should not be too hot or too cool, nor boiling, but a bit hotter than lukewarm. Mixing powder with water will form a white paste-like mixture. Next, you need to take your shoes and dip them in the bowl for 20 -30 minutes. Dip them in such a way so that water does not get inside your sneakers and soak the insoles completely.

After that, take a brush and scrub your shoes around the areas where there is dirt or strain present. Then take a towel and wipe your shoes, you see find your sneakers looking as white as before.  If you do not have any detergent at home you can try this same process using baking soda. Baking soda is alkaline in nature and works just like regular detergent. But make sure not to add to much baking soda, as it can damage your shoe’s appearance. 

3. Using Vinegar, hot water & soda

In case you do not want to use detergent or other powder, here is another method for you. Firstly, you need to take one tbsp. of white vinegar, a bowl filled with hot water and 2-3 tbsp. of baking soda, mix them well and form a solution. Take an old shoe cleaner brush, gently dab it into the mixture and then rub against the stains in your sneakers. If you want to clean the canvas part or the rubber soles of your sneakers then it would be better to use a toothbrush.

After you are done, rinse all the vinegar and baking soda form your sneaker using normal tap water. Then keep the shoes under the sun and let them dry. Many people use this combination of vinegar, warm water and baking soda to clean their white sneakers, and find that it always work like magic.

Ways to prevent sneakers from getting dirty

Precautions are always better than cure, protect your sneakers hard stains, dirt and grease before they leave a permanent mark. 

Use newspaper to cover them: Stuffing your favorite pair of sneakers with newspaper is a great way to protect it. Newspaper may not seem like it, but they are actually great at absorbing moisture and oil.

After you are back home from outside, grab some newspaper and cover your sneakers up. If there is any mud, water or sweat stuck in your sneakers newspapers will absorb it. Newspapers also prevent toe creases, which is perhaps one of the prime reasons why sneakers look old and worn out.  

Store them in a box: Do not leave your sneakers out in the open, keep them stored in a box. 

Add dryer sheets: You can also add dryer sheets in your shoes to keep them tidy and fresh.

Clean your shoe laces: Laces are an important part of your sneakers. It is very easy to wash them, you can take the laces off your sneakers soak them in a bowl filled with detergent and water and they’ll be clean.

Cleaning sneakers regularly: It is important to clean your shoes every week. This will prevent any dirt from building up in your shoes and making them look worm out.
